Bedwetting

As you go through the world of parenting, you might feel that the many problems that could potentially affect your children are as plentiful as grains of sand on a beach, but you don't have to feel overwhelmed.

Indeed, having the right information will make all the difference when it comes to finding a solution to any problems you're having with your children. One problem that affects a lot of children during their development is bedwetting.

As the name implies, bedwetting revolves around the child not waking up in time to use the restroom, which can cause a lot of embarrassment in the morning.

While there are numerous ways to solve bedwetting, the last thing you want to do is become angry enough about the situation to lash out at your child. After all, the training pants can be disposed (if they were worn), and bed linens can always be washed and cleaned. The bigger task that you need to take care of is walking your child through several solutions. However, what can really be done about something that every child seems to have to go through during their early developmental years?

There's actually a few different treatment programs that you can go through with your child, as long as both of you are willing to work together to accomplish the goal.

First, you will need to sit down and figure out if there's any underlying root cause that is causing the bedwetting. For example, if the bedwetting is a recent development, then you might want to stop and ask your child if anything is going on at school -- bullying and other stress factors can trigger bedwetting. On the other hand, if your child is drinking a lot before bed, you might want to make sure that you don't give your child so many liquids at one time.

As you can imagine, bedwetting is not something that can always be tracked to one problem or another. Naturally, if you've already worked through a lot of the treatments offered here, your next step is definitely to talk to your child's pediatrician to see if any medication can be prescribed for the problem.

Once they have a rhythm going, they should be able to get up and use the restroom, and then fall back asleep. At first, this might break their sleep, but that should go away with time -- along with the bedwetting.

Don't forget that you can also rely on some traditional barriers as you work through solving the bedwetting problem with your child, like bedwetting protection pads that can go underneath the sheets. This will protect the mattress, which takes away any guilt that your child might feel when it comes to the bedwetting episodes. In addition, don't forget to reward your child for nights that they wake up dry -- this will encourage them to remember to wake up and use the restroom.

Overall, the most important thing is to realize that there aren't any overnight solutions for bedwetting (just as there weren't for initially getting potty trained), but if you really take the time to work with your child to get the problem taken care of, you'll find that you can make bedwetting a thing of the past!
